Celebrating International Day of People with Disability 2025

Today, on International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), we take the opportunity to celebrate our incredible residents across Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia. You are the heart of everything we do at SDA Living Australia, and your experiences, feedback, and voices guide us in creating supportive, empowering living environments.

This year’s IDPwD theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” is a timely reminder that inclusion doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intentional action: removing barriers, listening to lived experience, and designing environments where everyone has the opportunity to participate, belong, and thrive.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

At SDA Living Australia, inclusion is at the core of our work. Every initiative we implement is designed to ensure that people with disability can live with independence, dignity, and connection to their communities. Here are some of the ways we are fostering a more inclusive environment:

Inclusive Designs

Our homes are thoughtfully designed around how residents with disability live and use their space, now and into the future. By integrating assistive technology, smart layouts, and helpful automations, we ensure that each home is adaptable, functional, and supportive of changing needs over time.

Resident Committee

We believe that residents should have a real voice in shaping their living experience. Our newly launched Resident Committee provides a platform for residents to guide operations, provide feedback, and contribute to planning improvements. This empowers residents to help shape a community that reflects their needs and priorities.

User-Friendly Policies

Clear and accessible information is a cornerstone of inclusion. That’s why we’ve translated our policies into simple, easy-to-understand formats, ensuring that everyone can know their rights, responsibilities, and the support available to them. Read them here: Policies

Virtual Walkthroughs

We recognise that not all applicants can attend in-person home inspections. Our growing collection of virtual home walkthroughs allows prospective residents and their families to explore our homes from anywhere, helping them make informed decisions in a convenient and accessible way.

Looking Ahead

These initiatives are just the beginning. In the coming year, we will continue to expand our programs, incorporate resident feedback into all aspects of our operations, and explore innovative ways to remove barriers and enhance inclusion. By designing homes and services that adapt to the diverse needs of our residents, we hope to contribute to a society where people with disability can fully participate in all aspects of life.
